Brave Heart showcases works by a new generation of Chinese artists.
The exhibition is curated by artist and curator Cang Xin and includes works by six artists – Ji Yiwei, Kong Weimeng, Pang Shaoxian, Shao Fengtian, Shu Xinghua and Tian Xiaolei. These works, on show for the first time in Australia, include paintings, sculpture, and video art. Collectively, they demonstrate the very different preoccupations of this younger generation of Chinese artists compared to their immediate, and now well-known, predecessors. They are less obviously influenced by the foment of the Maoist era, and their subjects range from depictions of everyday objects to representations of myth and fantasy.
